Sundown

Sundown

The death of Beoddy's mother at an early age had a traumatic effect on Jim. He was still a rebellious teenager and her loss in a car accident would haunt him throughout the rest of his life. He often painted her image. In "Sundown," a portrait of the artists parents (1985) he used two separate photos to paint his parents together. Gone are the flying sauces and other typical Beoddyisms we see in his work. The subjects are treated seriously, with respect.
