Martian Gothic

Martian Gothic

Martian Gothic 1997 (appoximately 3.5 x 3.0 feet). David Greene explains: This painting uses Jim's trademark "Network Realism" technique. He perfected this format in "Millennium". The structure of this painting is filled with images around a common theme. The mushroom shaped building (middle-right part of the painting) is filled with images of atomic mushroom clouds, all referenced from photos of different test blasts. Figures in the foreground are enlarged and show up as ghost images underneath the background painting. "FZAP" is the most obvious and easy-to-read use of the Network Realism technique.
