Michael Keilmeier tells us: James Beoddy's early paintings included his series "The Basketcase Chronicles". This painting, "Bedlam", (1976) was part of the prologue to the series. These earlier paintings often displayed toy-like ambience and used bright colors to create a style based on comic books with substance and depth. Many of the images in this painting were also used in his larger sale work yet to come.
